Fayyaz Vellani

College House Fellow

Welcome to Hill College House.  As a Hill resident for seven years, I can honestly say it’s the most wonderful community to which I’ve ever belonged.  Here at Penn, I teach Critical Writing Seminars in Environmental Studies, Urban Studies, the Craft of Prose, and Global English. Prior to Penn, I worked Yale and UCL, and studied at NYU, London University, and the University of Waterloo. Like my Hill faculty colleagues, I am passionate about Philadelphia!  Please join me on adventures in hiking (Wissahickon Creek), gardening (Bartram’s Farm), viewing street art (mural walks), and historical exploration (Old City).  Then there is the food for which this city is renowned.  Whether you’re into cheese steaks, Italian, Mexican, Ethiopian, Laotian or any variety of vegetarian, Philly is your town, and I’m happy to be your guide and co-chef. I’m also passionate about politics, working to create spaces in which residents can engage in dialogue about issues of concern throughout the year.  I’m also very passionate about writing, so if you have any questions on that subject, just ask.  If you see me in the lobby or the dining hall, say hello.  I look forward to getting to know all of you!
